Letter from the publisher

Dear readers, Every year, when the editorial team of The Slovak Spectator starts working on the very last issue of the year, compiling a review of the most important political and economic happenings, we all look back and think about all the challenges we have faced and what it took to make it through 2010 while preserving all our products and guarding the spirit of our publishing house.

Dear readers,
Every year, when the editorial team of The Slovak Spectator starts working on the very last issue of the year, compiling a review of the most important political and economic happenings, we all look back and think about all the challenges we have faced and what it took to make it through 2010 while preserving all our products and guarding the spirit of our publishing house.

For The Slovak Spectator, 2010 was also the year of our 15th anniversary, showing that there is now a strong tradition behind us. We switched to a new full-colour format and some new features have been added this year to our annual publications. With the help of the diplomatic community, we also launched the project Bringing the World to the Classroom which encourages discussions in English on challenging topics at Slovak high schools.

We also have an ambitious plan for 2011. Under the motto “Be in touch with news you trust” we will offer our registered users some new online and offline services, such as newsletters, discussions, and pdf files of the current issue of The Slovak Spectator. We have created these products based on feedback and requests for new features from our readers received via our website, spectator.sk.

I would like to thank all our readers, friends, supporters and advertisers who have helped us to continue our mission to bring balanced reporting about Slovakia and its place in the wider regional context. With the support we receive from you, we look forward to 2011 with confidence and the hope that we will be able to serve your information needs and, thanks to new projects, move closer to our readers. The next issue of The Slovak Spectator will be available on January 10, 2011.
We wish all our readers a peaceful winter holiday season and a successful 2011.
