What does President Pellegrini want?

Robert Fico is prepared to govern on the edge of losing his parliamentary majority until the end of his term in 2027. He is ready to patch things up, bribe, blackmail, and punish.

He reshuffles ministries as if handing out trophies after a successful hunt–and we understand that disgruntled and pro-Russian former MP Rudolf Huliak knows a thing or two about hunting. Considerably more, it seems, than about supporting tourism and sport, the sectors he has been entrusted with as a minister since last week–thanks to his rebellion within Fico’s coalition.

Fico insists that early elections are unlikely. This time, he might not even be lying–there is always a position or a reward to turn disgruntled MPs into content ones.
