The Telecom Office has received 11 applications from firms wanting a license to operate a public fixed line service within the 30-day period allowed after calling a tender last month.
The license holders approved will be direct competition for incumbent Slovak Telecom after market liberalisation in January 2003, after which time ST will be forced by law to rent its fixed line network out to other operators.
