2005 folk festival attracts record numbers

A RECORD-BREAKING 7,000 people visited the July 9 evening programme of the 40th-annual folk festival at the foot of Poľana hill in Detva (Banská Bystrica region), the news agency TASR reported.

The event culminated on July 10 with a gala programme. It is estimated that the 11 sets of stage performances on offer were watched by nearly 25,000 people over the past four days.

In total, more than 1,400 performers took part in the event, including 9 Slovak folk ensembles, 6 Slovak children's folk groups, 3 foreign ensembles, 9 groups made up of Slovaks living abroad and 80 solo performers. This year's festival costs totalled Sk4.1 million (€106,000).
