THE NUMBER of women elected to parliament on March 10 was 24 – only one more than the 23 female MPs elected in 2010. Women will constitute 16 percent of the new parliament, the TASR newswire reported.
The highest number of female MPs, 15, will belong to the caucus of the largest parliamentary party, Smer, which has a total of 83 MPs. Ordinary People and Independent Personalities (OĽaNO), which has 16 seats, will be represented by four women MPs, while the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH), also with 16 MPs, will have just two women in its caucus. Two women MPs will also represent the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ), out of its 11 MPs. Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) will have just one woman MP and Most-Híd none.
