There are several reasons for the collapses, said Boris Chmel, spokesperson for the Emergency Medical Care Operational Centre. The most common are dehydration, overestimating one’s strength and staying in the sun for extended periods of time without any head cover.

Rescuers advise people to avoid the sun, especially between 11:00 and 15:00, to exercise caution when leaving air conditioned spaces and going outside, and to drink plenty of water during the day, as reported by SITA.

The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) has meanwhile issued a first-degree heat warning for western Slovakia for June 10, and a second-degree heat warning for western and south-western Slovakia for June 11.
