IN 2005 335,966 computers were sold in Slovakia, up 12,183 or 3.8 percent from the year before.
Of the total number, 191,966 were brand-name computers, down 7.2 percent year-on-year. Among brand name computers Hewlett-Packard remained the market leader enjoying a 30-percent market share. Acer came in second with a 12-percent share, and Agem followed with 11.7 percent.
The market for cloned computers increased from 117,000 in 2004 to 144,000 in 2005.
Notebooks are becoming increasingly popular in Slovakia as well. While the sale of desktop PCs dropped 27.7 percent year-on-year, notebook sales grew 55.7 percent to more than 67,000, the Pravda daily wrote.
