340,000 first-time voters set for election

OUT of approximately 4.3 million eligible voters in Slovakia, around 340,000 are first-time voters who could cast their ballots in the June 17 parliamentary elections, the Slovak Statistics Office (ŠÚ) said.

Also, the ŠÚ ruled out the chance that election results will be manipulated in any way. ŠÚ director Peter Mach said the ballot counting process will be checked at several levels and election commissions that include representatives from the competing political parties will supervise the whole process.

The ŠÚ has performed three trial runs, the first having taken place on May 16.

For the first time in the country's electoral history, the results from individual precincts will be revealed. Initial election results should be known by midnight from Saturday to Sunday, SITA wrote.

Official results will be announced on Sunday, June 18, between 20:00 and 21:00
