Students from developing countries and Slovak expats living abroad will come to Slovak colleges and universities thanks to government scholarships, the TASR newswire wrote on July 24.
A total of 109 young people, 48 of which are from 16 different developing countries, along with 61 Slovak expats, will come to study in bachelor, master and post-graduate courses, the Education Ministry wrote.
Students from Afghanistan, Albania, Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan, Kenya, Belarus and Ukraine will come to study at Slovak schools.
“In Slovakia, they will mostly study general medicine and technology courses focused on telecoms, civil engineering, computer engineering, architecture, and urbanism,” the ministry wrote, adding that they were also interested in studying economy and management.
“Most of them got through a one-year language and professional preparation phase before joining the university,” the ministry explained, adding that this is part of the government scholarship.
Expats focus on teaching, humanities and management
The expats come from Serbia (40), Croatia and Romania (6 each) and Ukraine (5). Three scholarships went to Hungarian applicants and one to a potential Polish student.
“They had the biggest interest in studying pedagogical and social sciences, humanities, teaching, management, informatics, architecture and civil engineering, and agriculture,” the Education Ministry informed TASR.
Expats can pass a three-week summer course on Slovak language and professional preparation, too.
