THE LABOUR Ministry has submitted a draft operational programme for food and basic material assistance, aimed at fostering social cohesion and reducing poverty, to interdepartmental review. In the next seven years the ministry plans to allocate €65.1 million for this purpose, the TASR newswire reported on August 18.
Slovakia should receive the money via the Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived, which is designed to alleviate extreme poverty resulting in the most severe forms of social exclusion, such as homelessness, child poverty and food deprivation.
“The material deprivation, in Slovakia’s conditions, is mostly the lack of food and basic hygiene goods of people drawing material need benefits and homeless people,” the ministry explained in the document, as quoted by TASR.
The proposed measures focus on providing packages containing food and hygiene products, as well as hot meals and the distribution of donated food.
The food and material aid will be provided by organisations with experience in working with people in need, the ministry informed, as reported by TASR.
