OVER 70 vehicles were involved in a traffic pileup on a stretch of foggy and icy highway between Nitra and Trnava in west Slovakia, leaving one man dead and eight injured.
Total damages have been estimated at several million Slovak crowns.
Police blamed drivers themselves for the mess, saying they had not sufficiently reduced their speed on the icy road.
However, that strip of highway is notoriously dangerous. Last year a presidential motorcade collided in the area, and about three months ago an accident involving 15 cars took place there.
