IN SLOVAKIA today as much as 71 percent of the total population aged between 18 and 69 uses the internet. The average Slovak internet user spends eight and a half hours a month online, according to the Online Landscape Central Europe study of the Gemius trade advisory company.
The spread of internet use in Slovakia exceeds that of the central and eastern-Europe (CEE) region average, where the internet is used by 67 percent of the population. In the countries of the Visegrad Group (V4; Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia), there is a total of 31 million internet users, the SITA newswire quoted the study.
“The biggest internet market according to the number of users is Poland, but the highest rate of the spread of the internet is in the Czech Republic, where the internet is used by 96 percent of people aged 18-69,” Gremius found, adding that while in Poland and Hungary, most users prefer websites connected with leisure, in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, more practically oriented sites are used, like databases, maps or transport schedules. In Slovakia, online shops are popular, too, and the rate of internet use via mobile phones is growing, SITA wrote, representing a new challenge for marketing.
