“With the support of the Swedish PIRATPARTIET, a Pirate Party/Pirátska strana will also appear in Slovakia – we will be happy if you join it,” the organisers wrote. The network on Facebook has 177 members.

“Soon, we will launch a petition which must collect the 10,000 signatures necessary for founding of the party,” the web posting reads.

The Slovak pirate party, like a similar Czech one, follows a model of the Swedish Piratpartiet that was founded in 2006 at the server ThePirateBay.org which enabled users to download movies and music without cost, the sme.sk news portal wrote. In Sweden, the party enjoys popularity and in the recent European elections it gained 7 percent of votes and made it to the European Parliament.

As the name of the Slovak party implies, its party programme will be very similar to the Swedish one.

“The main aim of the party is to shift society’s perception in connection to issues of copyright, patent rights, protection of privacy and freedom,” the Facebook profile says. www.sme.sk
