Established in 1997, Institute for Public Affairs (IVO) is an independent non-governmental organization associating experts of various fields. Its mission is to pursue values of open society and democratic political culture in public policies.

Within its 6 programs (Domestic Politics, Global Report on Slovakia, European Integration and Trans-Atlantic Relations, Civil Society, Ethnic Minorities, Public Opinion and Political Culture), IVO covers many aspects of Slovakia's transition.

IVO is among the largest institutions of its kind in Slovakia - the Institute has published up to 70 analytical publications, carried out dozens of public opinion surveys, organized a number of conferences and seminars and produced 9 documentaries. The staff of IVO, lead by its president Grigorij Meseznikov and honorary president Martin Butora, counts on 15 internal employees and nearly 60 regularly co-operating experts.
