MARTIN Klus, a political analyst and vice-rector of Banská Bystrica’s Matej Bel University, has decided to join the Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party, becoming the second public personality, after LGBTI activist Romana Schlesinger, to join the party in recent months, TASR reported on December 4.
“We’re a stable party with the best programme – a party of experts,” SaS Chairman and MEP Richard Sulík said at a press conference, as quoted by TASR. “From this point of view, our newest acquisition is extremely valuable and in line with who we are.”
He added that Klus, 34, will become a team leader for foreign affairs and also deal with the election system. According to Sulík, this will not be the last such addition, as yet another new member is to be introduced to public before the end of the year.
Klus claimed that party attracted his attention with a good programme and quality of its members but it took him a long time to decide on joining.
“It was the people of Banská Bystrica who made the choice on my behalf, as I won [a seat] in the local municipal election by a wide margin,” Klus said as quoted by TASR, “Seeing as I no longer felt neutral in my statements as a political analyst, I decided to accept the offer from SaS.”
For the moment, Klus still remains the university’s vice-rector, with the rector already notified about his SaS membership.
Four years ago, Klus was accused by Gabriel Šípoš of the Transparency International of plagiarism when writing textbooks, the Sme daily wrote.
