Alena Zs., accused of paying for the murder of Ján Kuciak (source: SITA)
Alena Zs., accused of commissioning and paying for the murder of investigative journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kušnírová, was in communication with several powerful people in recent years, it has emerged from the investigation of the case, the Denník N daily reported.
They include deputy general prosecutor René Vanek and Deputy Speaker of Parliament Martin Glváč (Smer).
Alena Zs. archived their communications and it is possible that she kept them to use for blackmail later, Denník N reported. Investigators obtained the communications after seizing her computer and mobile phone.
Zlatica Kušnírová, mother of Kuciak's fiancée Martina who was also murdered, decided to publish the information.
“It is necessary to publish all the dirt so that the whole of Slovakia sees what happened and why,” said Kušnírová, as quoted by Denník N, adding that anyone should be able to read it.
Vanek admits to communication
Vanek admitted to Denník N that in 2013, an unknown woman wrote to him via Messenger on Facebook, admiring his motorbike.
However, he claims they have never met personally, and stresses that he has no idea what her surname is or who she keeps in contact with. Their last communication is from three days before Alena Zs. was arrested on September 28, 2018.
“She asked me if I could order a mobile phone for her daughter with Orange,” Vanek explained, as quoted by Denník N, adding that he had never talked with her about job issues.
When he found out who Alena Zs. is, he did not report the communication to General Prosecutor Jaromír Čižnár since he was not involved in the investigation and did not feel it was a conflict of interests, he explained to Denník N.
Glváč denies communication
When communicating with Glváč, the two exchanged pictures as well as messages. Alena Zs. called him her friend.
“Friendly, flirty, non-binding,” she said, as quoted by Denník N. “Nothing happened between us, I liked him as a person. He has a wife and small child.”
However, Glváč denies any communication with Alena Zs., despite the evidence.
Alena Zs. reportedly knows other politicians such as Boris Kollár, Juraj Droba, Andrej Danko and Daniel Lipšic.
