THE CATHOLIC Church on April 13 commemorated the 60th anniversary of the so-called Akcia K (Action K), which started on April 13, 1950, and resulted in the violent liquidation of Catholic monasteries by the communist regime.
During the action more than one thousand male monks were arrested and sent to forced labour camps. Among them was Ján Chryzostom Korec, who later became one of the most important personalities in the secret church in Slovakia and is today a cardinal.
Memorial masses and prayer meetings were held to commemorate the event on April 13 in numerous churches around Slovakia.
