Civil activist and entrepreneur Alojz Hlina transported and parked an armoured personnel carrier in front of the headquarters of the Slovak National Party (SNS) in Bratislava, the TASR newswire reported.
Hlina said that through this gesture he is calling on citizens to not vote for SNS in the upcoming parliamentary elections on June 12, 2010. He pointed out that SNS chair Ján Slota on several occasions has alleged that the Hungarian army is mobilising, thereby creating a threat to Slovakia. Slota also said in 1999 that Slovaks should get into their tanks and go to flatten Budapest.
“If he wants a tank, here’s one! But if he wants war, we won’t let him have one,” said Hlina. Hlina pointed out that it is always a bad sign if a tank or armoured troop carrier comes into the city.
“This happened during the war and in 1968, as well as at Communist parades. This one didn't come on its own wheels, it was carried in – so things aren’t as bad, yet,” said Hlina. SNS refused to comment on Hlina’s actions.
