Around 1,200 people joined an ‘electronic protest’ in which they sought to remind legislators of their vow to curtail MPs’ immunity from prosecution, Robert Mihály of the civic initiative UM! (Sense!) told the TASR newswire on Tuesday, February 15.
During the protest, which began on Monday, parliament’s and MPs’ electronic mailboxes were congested with 180,000 messages on a single day. The protest is continuing, with Mihály noting that UM! will continue to remind lawmakers of pledges that they have failed to keep.
“After the proposal to restrict MPs’ immunity didn’t pass in parliament last year, a promise was made that another vote on the proposal would take place on February 1. This didn’t happen, however, and another vote is only scheduled to take place in a few months,” Mihály said on Monday.
