THE NEW government is beginning to introduce its advisors. It has so far drawn advisors from both the Mikuláš Dzurinda era as well as that of Vladimír Meciar.
According to the Hospodárske noviny daily, Robert Fico’s team of advisors will have 10 members. Neurologist Juraj Štofko will advise the PM on healthcare issues while sociologist Ludmila Benkovicová will advise Fico on media policies. The daily Pravda wrote that Peter Stanek, a state secretary during the third Meciar government, will also be an advisor to Fico.
The daily SME wrote that Richard Sulík, who devised the flat tax system, will be among the advisors to new Finance Minister Ján Pociatek. He says that his top priority is to preserve the flat tax. He believes that reasonable social policies can be implemented while preserving the current taxation system. Foreign Affairs Minister Ján Kubiš chose onetime deputy PM Pavol Hamzík, who was forced to resign from his post due to suspicions linked to the misuse of EU funds.
