AIG, the parent company of Slovak insurance company Amslico, has sold the foreign division of its life insurer Alico to the US MetLife group, the biggest life insurer on the American stock market, the Sme daily wrote on March 8.
The step will have no impact on clients, the insurance company stated. Alico owns the Slovak life insurer Amslico, which has a 12-percent share of the Slovak market and is the third biggest insurance company in Slovakia. Amslico had a net profit of €19 million in 2009, up 5 percent year-on-year.
MetLife paid USD 6.8 billion in cash and about USD 8.7 billion in bonds for Alico. AIG will keep a minority 14-percent share in Alico. Sme
