As of June 1, a new firm will be written into the Slovak business register. The new Alcatel Slovakia a.s., according to Alcatel SEl spokesman Jaroslav Beharik, will be formed as a merger between the two existing Alcatel subsidiaries in Slovakia - Alcatel Slovakia s.r.o. Bratislava and Alcatel SEI TLH a.s. Liptovský Hrádok.

According to Beharik, the reason for the merger was the desire of the French mother firm Alcatel to be represented in each of the 130 countries in which it does business by only one branch, simplifying matters for consumers. Alcatel Slovakia a.s. will take over the business activities of both founding firms; according to Beharik, this will result in a stengthening of Alcatel's position on the Slovak market.

Alcatel SEL TLH has offered telecom services on the Slovak market since its founding in 1992. The firm's basic capital sits at 335 million Slovak crowns; 90% of the company is owned by Alcatel SEL Stuttgart and 10% by Devín Banka a.s. Bratislava. The firm's biggest customers last year were the state telecom monopoly Slovenské Telekomunikácie (ST) and the Czech SPT Telecom.
