No bomb was found at the Slovak Finance Ministry in Bratislava after an anonymous bomb threat was made by telephone on Monday, April 18. The scare led to the cancellation of a news conference by Finance Minister Ivan Mikloš, who was due to speak about the Tax Directorate/Nitra Invest case and the fate of Tax Directorate head Miroslav Mikulčík, who is Mikloš’s nominee.
Prime Minister Iveta Radičová urged Mikulčík to quit last week over a controversial rental contract with Nitra Invest, whose owner is an SDKÚ regional official. Mikloš was paying a working visit to the United States at the time and has since contradicted Radičová’s call.
An as-yet-unidentified caller, reported to be a woman, made the bomb threat, apparently in protest at the high prices of drugs for children, the SITA newswire wrote. The police evacuated and searched the ministry building, but no bomb was found. A police investigation has since begun. The news conference by Mikloš was rescheduled for Tuesday, April 19.
