Almost 50 percent of Slovaks favour spring elections

A MAJORITY of people would prefer parliamentary elections in Slovakia to take place before the end of the regular electoral term in September 2006, according to a Markant agency survey, the daily SME reported.

About 46 percent of respondents would like to have elections in with elections in March 2006. Only 26 percent of respondents favoured the September date. About 8 percent of people were for June elections, a month also favoured by the opposition party Movement for Democratic Slovakia (HZDS). Twenty-two percent of people were unsure about when they would like parliamentary elections to be held.
