One of their other tasks was to remove obstructions from the Handlova River. The first group of 23 soldiers were deployed as early as on Sunday, with 48 officers from the Military Police sent in on the following night to prevent any looting of evacuated homes.

According to Vanga, the Armed Forces have adopted measures to allow them to intervene at any time in Slovakia when flooding takes place.
