Almost 7,000 new cars registered in Slovakia in January

In January, 6 862 new passenger cars and small commercial vehicles of up to 3.5 tonnes were registered in Slovakia, up 43.76 percent from the same period last year, Marta Nováková of the Automotive Industry Association (ZAP) informed the SITA newswire.

Škoda remained the best-selling carmaker in Slovakia, with a 23.14 percent market share. Suzuki came in second, with 7.04 percent, and Peugeot was third, with 6.92 percent.

Volkswagen had a 6.44 percent market share, followed by Renault with 6.22 percent. The remaining of the top ten were Kia, 5.93 percent, Citroen, 5.19 percent, Ford, 4.85 percent, Hyundai, 3.76 percent and Toyota Lexus, 3.64 percent.

As of the end of January 2008, 75 new trucks in the category of 3.5 to 12 tonnes were registered in Slovakia, representing a growth of 5.63 percent year-on-year.

Iveco was once again the most sought-after brand, with a market share of 36 percent, followed by MAN with 13.33 percent.

Registration of heavy trucks in the over 12 tonnes category posted an increase of 74.14 percent, as a total of 357 new trucks were registered in the first month of this year. Mercedes-Benz came in first with a 17.93 percent market share, Scania was second with 17.09 percent and Volvo was third, with 16.81 percent. SITA
