Most members of Slovakia’s Police Corps are soon to get extraordinary extra compensation, the TASR newswire reported, adding that there are some 23,000 persons employed in the police force.
“These are rewards for the fact that the Police Corps indeed achieved excellent results as a whole,” said the Interior Ministry spokesperson, Erik Tomáš, for the private JOJ channel, specifying achievements in fighting criminality.
The amount of the additional compensation for individual police officers will depend on the position of the officer and the number of years he or she has worked with the police.
This is the sixth time police officers have received such special consideration under the leadership of the current Interior Minister, Robert Kaliňák, from the ruling Smer party. JOJ TV reported that for this reason it did not consider the action to be connected with the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Other departments of the state administration are not planning similar reward for their staff, according to JOJ TV.
