THE United States awarded the Hero of the Day prize to Slovak soldier Martin Fiala, who is part of the ISAF mission in Afghanistan, the SITA newswire reported on April 9.

Fiala received the award for his behaviour during a shooting on a vehicle in which he sat. It was part of the convoy passing through the periphery of Kandahar. The attack left no one injured. One of the bullets hit the helm of the Slovak soldier, but nothing serious happened. Fiala did not respond to the shooting as there were many civilians around him at the moment.
