As of October, Tom Nicholson has ended his tenure as editor-in-chief of The Slovak Spectator, having held the position since July 1998. He plans to move with his family to Costa Rica in the new year.
Taking over the editor's role is Rachel Salaman. Rachel earned a master's degree in journalism at the London College of Printing and began her career in UK radio, ending up with her own hour-long daily news show, broadcast throughout southeast England.
She moved to Mexico City in 1996, where a shortage of radio work pushed her into print media. During her three years there, Rachel edited the finance section of Mexico's national English-language daily, reported for Time Magazine, and was bureau chief of a popular bilateral business magazine.
After a brief stint in Sydney editing magazines, Rachel moved to New York in 1999, where she continued with magazine work and also wrote travel and business guides. She was lured to Slovakia by the opportunity to become The Slovak Spectator's new editor-in-chief.
