THE LIBERAL New Citizen's Alliance (ANO) has decided that it will require that one third of all ANO candidates in municipal, regional, and national elections are women.
ANO has long called for the introduction of quota that would help Slovak women get into top politics. At a meeting on February 14 the party decided that it would lead by example.
In Slovakia, it is still uncommon for women to hold top positions. In parliament 19 percent of MPs are women and the Slovak cabinet does not have a single female member, the Slovak daily SME wrote.
