SLOVAKIA's ruling New Citizen's Alliance (ANO) proposed MP Jirko Malchárek as its candidate for the vacant deputy parliamentary speaker post, the state-run news agency TASR reported.
The post has been vacant since the departure of ANO chairman Pavol Rusko, who was appointed Economy Minister in September 2003.
Since then, the liberals have been unable to fill the post. Their previous candidate - ANO vice-chairman Ľubomír Lintner - failed to secure enough votes.
ANO is entitled to one of the four deputy speaker posts under the Coalition Agreement signed by the country's four-party ruling coalition. The opposition holds one post.
