Last October, a high school in Trenčín, western Slovakia, cancelled a planned memorial event that was meant to commemorate the victims of a terrorist attack on an LGBT+ venue in Bratislava in 2022.

The school was forced to do so in response to numerous negative reactions to the initiative, which began spreading on social media after neo-fascist MEP Milan Mazurek (Republika) publicly criticised the event, labelling it "LGBT+ ideology propaganda". Subsequently, disinformation media also criticised the event.

Now, Mazurek targeted another high school, this time in Levice, south-western Slovakia, reports Sme daily.

Disclosed personal information

In cooperation with the Milan Šimečka Foundation, its students wanted to hold the Charitatívna Míľa (Charity Mile) race. Mazurek once again doxxed a teacher that promoted the event on the school's Facebook page.

The school then cancelled the charity run. Republika chair Milan Uhrík then boasted of stopping "another progressive attack on children".

In response to the cancellation, the foundation said that, "it may not come as a surprise that it is a Republika MEP who objects to Holocaust education".

In the past, Mazurek was found guilty of racist comments against the Roma, which cost him a seat in the Slovak parliament. He was also investigated for Holocaust denial comments on social media, but the charges were not pressed.

"The cooperation between the school and the Milan Šimečka Foundation concerned educational activities about the threats of Nazism, the mass murder of Jews and Roma, and was linked to current forms of discrimination. The charity run was not a direct part of the activity," the NGO said in a social media post, adding that this is just another example of the consequences of distorting facts, labelling, intimidation and threats.

'Systemic hunt'

The foundation also said that this is part of a "systematic hunt against foundations and NGOs".

Just last week PM Robert Fico (Smer) demanded that ministries compile a list of all grants and subsidies awarded to foundations, civic associations, and other organisations. He later specifically attacked Progressive Slovakia chair Michal Šimečka, demanding that the latter disclose the income of organisations, associations, and other entities in which his family members and close associates held positions from the years 2010 to 2025. The Milan Šimečka Foundation is named after Michal Šimečka's grandfather, a philosopher and dissident.
