The new head of the anti-corruption section at the Attorney General's Office is Ján Bernát, until now head of the organised crime section. Bernát will be tasked with forming a special prosecutor to fight organised crime and corruption.
Slovakia has been embarrassed in recent months by a number of decisions freeing alleged organised crime figures from jail, and has long been pressured by international bodies to take corruption more seriously.
It is expected that the new special prosecutor's office, in being impervious to bribery or intimidation, will finally produce results.
