Hliník n. Hronom
Police are searching for two masked suspects who robbed an OMV petrol station in the Banská Bystrica region town of Hliník nad Hronom. The robbery took place on Monday, January 25 at 2 a.m. and netted the thieves, who were hooded and armed with shotguns, nearly 340,000 Sk ($92,000).
The robbers forced open the station door, tied up a 22 year old OMV employee, then forced her 22 year old co-worker to open a metal safe after striking her on the head with an unidentified object. Both employees were then locked in the storeroom where they remained until police released them after receiving a call from a passing motorist. Neither employees suffered any injuries but both suffered from severe shock. By agreement with their employer, both contracts were terminated.
The robbers made off with 330,000 Sk from the safe and over 5,000 Sk from the cash register. The robbery was the second armed hold-up at the petrol station in the last two years. The 1997 perpetrators were armed with rifles and were arrested immediately after the act.
