AN AUSTRIAN wood-processing company is planning to invest more than Sk1 billion (€25.6 million) in the construction of a new plant in Banská Bystrica, news wire TASR reported.
The plant will be built on land belonging to Stredoslovenská cementáreň, which is owned by Holcim Rohožník, a Slovak producer of construction materials.
Banská Bystrica Mayor Ján Králik said, "The municipality is already talking to the cement plant over the purchase of a 32-hectare area by the Austrians. The new plant will be ready in 2006 or 2007. In the first phase, over 500 jobs will be created."
Although Králik did not give the company's name, he said a Memorandum of Understanding would be signed by the investor and the Economy Ministry.
