Austrian firm wants stake in Bratislava Airport

THE AUSTRIAN operator of the airport in Vienna, Flughafen Wien AG, is interested in privatizing Letisko MR Štefánik - Airport Bratislava in a consortium with Slovak partners.

Michael Fazekas, chief of special projects department in the Austrian company, told SITA news agency: "Certainly, we would like to step into the [privatization] process in a consortium that would hold a majority." Fazekas declined to comment on details concerning the composition of the consortium.

However, the special projects chief confirmed that Flughafen Wien will demonstrate its interest by the August 15 cut-off date set by the Slovak state. Fazekas confirmed that the company would forward its preliminary bid by September 5.

Flughafen Wien is still trying to decide whether to present its offer to buy Bratislava airport only or add Košice airport to the deal.
