Automotive wire harness manufacturer SEWS Slovakia, operating in Topoľčany, will lay off an additional 430 employees. The company had previously announced a mass layoff of 228 people. The company cited internal organizational changes and redundancy as the reason for the job losses, Rene Schmizing of the Topoľčany Labour Office informed the SITA newswire.
The company will lay off the employees between August 23 and November 20. The unemployment rate in the Topoľčany District reached 10.61 percent at the end of last week. The local labour office registers 4,502 job applicants, while there are only sixty vacancies.
Five other companies have also announced mass layoffs in the district. One of them is the textile firm Ozeta Neo that will lay off 180 employees. The company is based in Trenčín but most people will be released from its Topoľčany plant. Ozeta will keep 494 employees. The reason for the layoff is a 30 percent fall of orders compared with last year.
A poultry processing firm, Hydinárske Závody HYZA, plans a two-phase layoff: 64 jobs will be lost in the first stage in Žilina and 50 people will be laid off in the second phase in Topoľčany. Additionally, the furniture maker DECODOM gave notice about cancellation of 52 jobs and the engineering company Topos Továrniky will cut its labour force by 63 people. The clothing firm Elison, based in Mýtna Nová Ves and operating a factory in Chynorany, will also lay off 51 members of its staff. SITA
