BANKS in Slovakia had another successful year in 2004. Figures from the National Bank of Slovakia (NBS) show bank profits reached almost Sk13 billion (€340 million) for the year, reported the daily Hospodárske noviny.
Compared with 2003 bank profits are up by 15 percent. The three biggest banks in Slovakia - Slovenská sporiteľňa, VÚB banka, and Tatra banka accounted for a 64-percent share of the profits.
In 2004, the VÚB bank reached a profit of Sk3.14 billion (€80 million), Slovenská sporiteľňa Sk2.85 billion (€70 million) and Tatra banka Sk2.24 billion (€60 million).
