BANKS active in Slovakia spent more than €4 million to support non-profit initiatives last year, with the bulk of the funding flowing to support arts and culture, education, science, sports, charity projects, social assistance and health care, the TASR newswire reported.
“Banks become engaged wherever it is needed the most, as they have been providing support to projects in areas that are chronically underfunded,” Ladislav Unčovský, executive director of the Slovak Banking Association (SBA), told TASR.
The allocation of funding into individual areas varies among banks, but in aggregate 35.8 percent of the funding was used to sponsor projects in arts and culture, such as cultural events, works of art and reconstructions of historical and cultural monuments.
Together 19.4 percent of the total funding went to projects in education and science, such as grants supporting gifted students, education projects and lectures by renowned researchers. About 18.9 percent of the funding went to help sports talents, including disabled athletes, as well as reconstruction of sports facilities, TASR wrote.
