About 2,000 protesters gathered to take part in a Gorilla Protest in Banská Bystrica on Wednesday, February 8.
The demonstrators shouted: “To Jail!” in reference to politicians that one of the speakers at the event described as more dangerous and harmful than bank robbers, the Sme daily reported. Another speaker called for the crowd to stand against government members, the president and MPs, and called on public broadcaster RTVS to organise debates involving citizens and experts, but excluding politicians.
The Banská Bystrica event was generally peaceful, with just one skirmish reported, Sme wrote. But groups of supporters of businessman and Ordinary People candidate Alojz Hlina and of right-wing extremist Marián Kotleba reportedly used the demo to hand out leaflets among protesters.
