Slovak filmmaker Pavol Barabáš said he was pleasantly surprised to receive the best foreign film award for Tepuy - Cesta Do Hlbin Zeme (Tepuy - Journey to the Depths of the Earth) at the William Mountain Festival in Scotland on February 18.
"I didn't know about the festival,” Barabáš told TASR. “It is a kind of marathon of events regarding mountains, where several filmmakers meet.”
The award-winning movie is a journey of discovery that takes place deep in the middle of the Orinoco primeval forest in Venezuela. In a gigantic labyrinth of table mountains, colonies of bizarre organisms have eaten away the largest quartzite cave in the world. This unique discovery of Slovak and Czech speleologists is a culmination of several expeditions into this previously unknown area.
Barabáš was also pleased by the fact that his award-winning 88-minute film has been seen in Slovak cinemas and at festivals by 11,000 paying spectators. TASR
