THE PRESIDENT of the European Commission José Barroso joined the criticism of British PM Tony Blair's plan to make cuts in the European Union budget for 2007 to 2013 period through cuts to the funding that should go to the eastern European states, the SME daily wrote.
Barroso has urged Blair not to act as Sheriff of Nottingham "taking from the poor and giving it to the rich".
Previously, the prime ministers of the V4 states - Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Poland, criticized the Blair plan.
If the plan was pushed through Slovak regions might lose tens of millions of crowns for development.
The PMs sent an article to the Financial Times calling on Blair to secure an acceptable budget agreement for the December EU summit. However, the newspaper failed to publish the article.
According to Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Eduard Kukan, the newspaper rejected the article.
