LESS than a week after dropping the channel from a television package it offers its customers, cable provider UPC Slovensko restored BBC World Service to its lineup on April 7.
UPC had cut BBC World after it failed to reach a new agreement to broadcast the channel, and an old agreement ran out on April 1.
The move drew protests from customers, especially expatriates, who had valued the channel, and who didn't know why it was suddenly unavailable.
UPC restored BBC World "with the goal of meeting [the needs of] customers", the company said in a prepared statement, adding it had expended "enormous efforts" to restart talks and get a new deal with BBC World's operator.
In a statement to The Slovak Spectator on April 1, UPC spokesman Jaroslav Kolár had said the firm reserved the right to change its lineup of TV channels at any time, and noted that UPC continued to provide "several other television news stations - CNN and Euronews in English, the Slovak news station TA3, the French TV5, the German Deutsche Welle and so on"
