The former vice-chair of the Slovak national party (SNS) Anna Belousovová has founded her own party, she told the TA3 news TV channel. Former members of the SNS leadership Rudolf Pučík and Jozef Ďuračka will reportedly join her.
The Internet portal Topky.sk reported that from May, Belousovová plans to collect signatures in the form of a petition in order to formally register her party. Belousovová challenged SNS chairman Ján Slota after the party’s poor showing in last year’s general election, stating she was dissatisfied with his policies. However, Slota was re-elected as chairman in September 2010 and Belousovová lost her leadership position. She later became an independent MP.
Referring to her move to set up a new party, Belousovová told TA3: “The decision matured slowly in me, until it came to this point.” She described her vision for the party as “conservative, not nationalist”.
