Gašparovič re-appointed Benkovičová to the post based on a proposal by the ruling Smer party, the Sme daily wrote in its Thursday issue, adding that she will lead the statistics authority for a second term despite its failures during the census in May 2011. Former interior minister Daniel Lipšic, who reproached the ŠÚ for using outdated maps and doubted the anonymity of the count, is not surprised by Smer’s decision; he said that he does not think the current government will focus on expertise when it comes to making nominations to public positions.
