THE BEST conditions for doing business in Slovakia are in the Bratislava region, according to a regional business environment index prepared by the Business Alliance of Slovakia (PAS).
According to PAS' executive director, the Bratislava region, including the capital city and the local districts of Malacky, Senec, and Pezinok, is followed by the economically strong regions of Trenčín, Trnava, Nitra, and Žilina, the SME daily wrote.
Districts such as Žiar nad Hronom, Medzilaborce, Sobrance, Zlaté Moravce, Poltár, Bánnovce nad Bebravou, Detva, Dolný Kubín, and Sabinov are at the bottom of the PAS index.
The alliance also stated that the further east one goes from Bratislava, the lower the wages and the higher the unemployment rate, which might seem an advantage for business. However, local entrepreneurs often complain that the labor force has poor qualifications and an unsuitable structure.
