Slovakia’s chances to become big in the automotive industry are high according to Ján Bajánek, head of the Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency (SARIO), with several Japanese, British, and US firms considering Slovakia as a possible site for their new plants.
Bajánek said to the state-run TASR news agency on January 28 that a major US producer of trucks was considering building a factory in Slovakia with jobs for 2,000 people and an investment of $400 million (€328.7 million).
According to Bajánek, Slovakia is still in a good position for the Hyundai investment, and other Asian car producers, such as Mazda and Honda from Japan, are also considering coming to Slovakia. According to Bajánek, the firms would each employ about 700 people and invest €200 million.
The British company Rover is considering investing in Slovakia, Bajánek said, as is the Japanese tiremaker Bridgstone.
