Railways have beaten out Christmas bonuses for pensioners in the battle for government funding, the Pravda daily reported.

Finance Ministry spokesman Miroslav Šmál confirmed that the ministry has sent Sk245 million to the Železničná Spoločnosť railway company, and the rest of the promised Sk900 million will follow. Meanwhile, Christmas bonuses for pensioners will be paid after the New Year.

A few days ago, the ministry said all the promises outside of the framework of the state budget would be solved at the end of the year. But Šmál now said that they found the money for the railway company in the General Treasury Administration Chapter.

The rest of the railway funding is expected to be paid to Železničná Spoločnosť by the end of this year.
