Bookmakers tip Smer to win

ACCORDING to the Tipos lottery company, which has been accepting bets on the election results, the opposition Smer party has the best odds for victory at 1:1.03.

Bets also indicate the ruling Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) could get more votes than the Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) or the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH).

The odds are 1:1.20 for the SDKÚ, 1:6 for the SMK and 1:7.5 for the KDH.

Smer leader Robert Fico is the favourite for next prime minister, with odds of 1:1.85, followed by current PM Mikuláš Dzurinda with 1:2.3.

The odds of Vladimír Mečiar, the leader of the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS), becoming prime minister are 1:10.5.
