Two sons of Ivana Boórová, who were taken into custody by British authorities two years ago will return to Slovakia by the end of this year, according to the verdict passed by the British Royal Court of Justice. The judges also ruled that the boys will be placed into the custody of their grandmother, Eleonóra Studencová. Yet, Slovakia must first provide some additional documents to the court, the TASR newswire reported on November 16.
“The British court requested some additional information from Slovak authorities, such as which nursery school the boys will go to, which doctor they will have and where, and other information,” said spokesperson for the Labour Ministry Michal Jurči as quoted by TASR.
Boórová’s children were seized by social workers on the grounds of alleged maltreatment by their parents. Subsequently, the British courts decided in September that the children should be put up for adoption. The case caused a wave of protests among Slovak families, which organised several demonstrations in front of the British Embassy in Bratislava.
Slovakia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák had previously said that the ministry has been paying close attention ever since its office was informed of the matter.
“We aim to have the children returned to Slovakia, to the care of their grandmother, Mrs Studencová,” he told TASR on November 12.
